Standing 7 feet 2 inches tall, Gilmore first became a superstar in the ABA with the Kentucky Colonels, where he established himself as one of the league’s premier centers. His dominance earned him the 1972 ABA Rookie of the Year award and helped make him one of the most feared interior players of the era.
Gilmore joined the Chicago Bulls in 1976 and spent six seasons with the franchise, becoming a dominant presence at the Chicago Stadium. His rebounding, efficient scoring, and ability to control the paint made him one of the most productive centers in the NBA during his time in Chicago.
Throughout his professional career, Gilmore was renowned for his exceptional field-goal percentage and remarkable consistency. His ability to combine efficient interior scoring with elite rebounding made him a prolific double-double performer.
