After joining Real Madrid in 1985 from Atlético Madrid, Sánchez quickly became the centerpiece of the club’s attack. His instinct inside the penalty area and ability to finish from almost any position made him one of the most feared forwards in European football during the 1980s.
During his seven seasons with Real Madrid, Sánchez scored 208 official goals in 282 appearances, establishing himself among the club’s greatest goalscorers. His spectacular bicycle kicks and acrobatic finishes became one of the defining images of his career.
Sánchez played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s dominance during the second half of the 1980s. He won five consecutive La Liga titles from 1986 through 1990, as well as the Copa del Rey in 1989 and two UEFA Cups in 1986 and 1987.
He also became La Liga’s Pichichi winner on multiple occasions, demonstrating his extraordinary consistency as a goalscorer.
