A little-known anecdote about Joe Frazier dates back to his early training years in South Carolina before he became a world champion.
As a teenager, Frazier worked in a butcher shop. Every night after work, he trained by punching the sides of meat carcasses hanging in the walk-in cooler. This daily physical work helped develop the phenomenal power of his left hook, which would later become one of the most feared punches in heavyweight history.
This strength and endurance, forged in harsh conditions, would propel him to the top of boxing. In 1971, Frazier faced and defeated Muhammad Ali in the legendary Fight of the Century at Madison Square Garden, handing Ali the first loss of his professional career.
During this historic fight, it was his famous left hook that sent Ali to the canvas in the 15th round, sealing his victory.
