Ronaldo therefore scored twice in the final and finished the Champions League campaign with 12 goals, becoming the competition’s leading scorer for the fifth consecutive season.

Real Madrid became the first club to successfully defend the UEFA Champions League title since the competition adopted its modern format in 1992.
Combined with the 2016 triumph, it represented the second stage of what would ultimately become an unprecedented run of three consecutive Champions League titles.
Across all competitions, Ronaldo scored 42 goals in 46 appearances during the 2016–2017 season.
