He would repeat the achievement in 2001 and 2002, becoming one of the very few players in league history to win three consecutive Finals MVP awards.
O’Neal’s combination of physical power and explosive athleticism made him almost impossible to defend near the basket. Opposing teams frequently built their entire defensive strategy around limiting his impact.
